Yoga for Summer :: Mudra

Summer is Pitta Time…

where the mental, emotional and physical flames (read: inflammation) are fanned by the strong solar energy. The ambitious and visionary constitution of Pitta is quick to express anger, judgement and conflict. In the body, Pitta leads to inflammation, rashes, and indigestion.

Bottom of hands touch while you extend all the fingers up and join the pinky and thumb fingers; hold at the center of your heart.

Pitta in Balance…

is a heart-opening sense of vision and clarity with strong principles. Physically, it is the a healthy digestive fire in the gut that efficiently and fully digests meals and has an open, easy flowing circulatory system.

To keep our Pitta in healthy balance through the summer months we want to cool the body as well as the mind. This season we offer to utilize the technology of mudra, hand positions, to focus and calm the mind. Durning summer it’s good to let the ambitious vinyasa and strong ego driven postures rest. Go inward with a meditative focus and posturing of the hands. This practice helps connect us to the subtle energy flowing though our body. We use the simplicity of the posture and a soft mental focus to quiet, cool and soften our Pitta in our minds, emotions and our bodies.
