Summer: Moon of Making Fat

Fat Moon.png

With the beginning of summer moon, life has fully taken root in the rich soil and the busy work of gathering nourishment has begun for the natural world. The warmth and sweetness of Mother Earth is revealed in her juicy, plump berries and in the stunning scent of budding flowers.  Traditionally, humans would be refining the fats from dairy, plants and hunted animals for storage. These fats, and their sources, were highly revered. They were a necessary form of nourishment, used for ceremony, burned for light and insured their survival through the next winter.

12 Moons follows the year in the lunar cycles. Many cultures across time and geography, especially native land based cultures, have used the moon to mark time, prepare for seasons and recall agricultural practices and wisdom.
