Spring Moons : 12 Moons

Spring 2021

12 Moons follows the year in the lunar cycles. Many cultures across time and geography, especially native land based cultures, have used the moon to mark time, prepare for seasons and recall agricultural practices and wisdom.

Sap Moon

A Sap moon marks the transition from winter to spring and the spring equinox. Mother Earth fluctuates between warm thawing temperatures during the day and freezing temperatures at night. Life begins to wake up flow again, slowly at first. The ground is softening, earthworms reappear, inviting the return of robins. The trees come out of their slumber. The sap -blood of the tree- begins its journey out from the core bringing nutrients and minerals to the distant branches where it gives life energy for new buds. On these branches, the robins perch, sing, and marvel at the coming of Spring.

Egg Moon

The mid-spring, Egg Moon births the life of all of Mother Earth’s creatures and brings hope to the heart. We begin to see delicate plants sprouting, the birds are laying their precious eggs and the animals are birthing new life across the land. The soil is rich; this is a time for renewal and rejuvenation, traditionally celebrated as Easter. Plant your garden seeds and your seeds of intention with much heart.

Milk Moon

With the Milk Moon, the scarcity of early spring is giving way to late spring, where abundance is starting to overflow. The animals have birthed, the rains have come and the fresh green grass is plentiful. The milk flows as a river and Mother Earth is ripe at peak fertility. Traditionally, we celebrate this time with Beltane or May Day adorning all with beautiful flowers and rejoicing in the fecundity on earth. Mother’s Day, a modern adaptation, we honor the many forms of mothers and how all their love and creative energy perpetuate the cycle of life.
