Herbs + Recipes for Autumn

Cinnamon… 

is a warming tonic herb, circulatory stimulant and a digestive carminative. Cinnamon is an antioxidant, anti viral, anti bacterial and anti fungal so it assists in the transition period to a colder season and fights off infections that may arise in the cooler temperatures. Cinnamon has prebiotic properties that may improve digestion. Cinnamon reduces blood pressure and relieves digestive discomfort.

Cinnamon Cacao tea latte Recipe

½ tsp Cinnamon powder

½ tsp Sea salt 

2 ½ tbsp organic Cacao powder 

2 tbsp of Coconut butter

1 tbsp of unrefined Coconut oil

1 ½ cup of non dairy organic milk such as Malk almond milk 

1 tsp of maple syrup

 

Place milk in blender and dry ingredients. Then place mixture in a pot on the stove on medium heat. Heat to a medium temperature and enjoy. Sprinkle sea salt and a little dried cinnamon on top for extra flavor. 

 

Turmeric…

is a warming tonic herb, carminative, astringent, anti-inflammatory and most bioavailable with black pepper and a source of fat like coconut oil or coconut butter. 

Turmeric Golden Mylk

2 tsps Turmeric powder 

½ tsp Black pepper

1 tbsp Coconut oil 

2 tbsp Coconut butter

2 cups Non dairy milk 

A pinch Himalayan sea salt 

1/2 tsp Cinnamon 

½ tsp honey 

Blend all ingredients then simmer in a pot on the stove. Keep temperature at a medium temperature.

 

Rosemary…

is both a vital stimulant and relaxant. Rosemary is a powerful antioxidant, digestive carminative, brain tonic and liver relaxant. It is great for the transition season of fall in assisting the body and mind adjusting to cooler temperatures. Smelling rosemary oil can improve brain function, concentration and memory. Rosemary can stimulate hair growth. Rosemary can be used as a mild pain reliever via a rosemary oil topically. Rosemary can ease stress by reducing anxiety by reducing your cortisol levels. Rosemary can help with

 

Thyme is high in vitamin C and is a source of vitamin A so it is great to eat thyme when you feel a cold coming on to get your health back on track. Thyme is great at disinfecting air pollutants in your home. Add a few drops of thyme essential oil to a diffuser or simply keep dried thyme simmering on a burner in a pot with plenty of water to clean the air in your home. Thyme is antiseptic and anti fungal and the tea can be diluted with water to provide a mouthwash. 

Thyme can boost your brain activity so for those going back to school try again smelling the aroma of thyme to have a positive effect on your feelings and mood.

Rosemary + Butternut Soup

2 cups filtered water

1 cup Butternut squash 

A pinch Himalayan sea salt 

½ tsp Rosemary 

½ tsp Thyme 

½ cup Kale 

2 tbsp Coconut oil 

1 1/2 cup Non dairy milk 

1 tsp Black pepper

3 tsps Turmeric 

2 tsps Ginger 

2 cloves of Garlic 

 

Chop vegetables: squash, garlic, ginger and turmeric and place in a pan and saute’ with coconut oil. Make sure vegetables are soft. Then add water and milk. Add kale, rosemary and thyme after simmering for about 30 mins. Let cool then place in blender and blend until a creamy texture.
